BEATFORTWENTYTHREE - Mayor
Summer powerpop anthem "On The Beach" by Da Biz caught the ear of Sire Records who promptly re-released it shortly after it first appeared on the Small Operations label. Frontman Ronnie Mayor (ex-Tours) tried again the following year with a solo version retitled "Can't Wait Till The Summer Comes" on the Do It label, neither version became the hit it deserved to be.
Richard Mazda was one of the co-founders of punk/mod band Tours. They signed to Virgin Records in 1979 after selling large quantities of their self produced and distributed , Language School/Foreign Girls double A side 7" single. Radio 1 DJs John Peel and Mike Reid championed the band which led to a bidding war between Virgin, Polydor, Sire and EMI records. Eventually the band signed to Virgin but the association was shortlived after an agument between the band and the label led the other founder/leader Ronnie Mayor to quit.
Biz Internationale was a storming seven-piece band consisting of Dabiz plus a brass section, later Après Ski, a variation on Biz Internationale with a new frontman. Ronnie Mayor had finally given up and emigrated to Australia.
